Terms of Service

Purl is a self-hosted log aggregation platform that allows you to collect, search, and analyze logs from your servers and infrastructure in real-time. The Service consists of:

• Purl Server — The self-hosted log aggregation engine that runs on your own infrastructure, powered by ClickHouse for high-performance storage and querying.
• Purl Agent — A lightweight log collection agent (based on Vector) that ships logs from your servers to your Purl Server instance.
• Purl Dashboard — A web-based interface for searching, analyzing, and monitoring your logs, including alerts and pattern analysis features.
• purlogs.com — The SaaS platform for account management, subscription billing, license key generation, and documentation.

To use the Service, you must create an account on purlogs.com. When creating your account, you agree to:

• Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and keep your account information up to date.
• Maintain the security of your account credentials. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
• Use one account per person. Shared or generic accounts are not permitted. Team access is available through the Enterprise plan.
• Notify us immediately at legal@purlogs.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

You must be at least 18 years old or the age of majority in your jurisdiction to create an account and use the Service.

Purl offers the following subscription plans:

Annual billing is available at a discounted rate. Prices are listed in US dollars and are subject to change with 30 days' notice to existing subscribers. Feature availability may vary between plans as detailed on our pricing page.

Paid subscription plans (Pro and Enterprise) include a JWT-based license key that unlocks features in your self-hosted Purl Server instance. The following terms apply to license keys:

• Each license key is tied to your account and subscription. License keys are non-transferable and may not be shared, sold, or redistributed.
• Each license key permits one active installation at a time. If you need to move your installation to a new server, you must first deactivate the key from the previous installation via your dashboard.
• License keys are cryptographically signed (RS256) and validated locally by your Purl Server. Tampering with or modifying a license key constitutes a violation of these Terms.
• License keys expire when your subscription ends. Upon cancellation or non-payment, your Purl Server will revert to Free tier functionality.

Purl is a self-hosted platform. This means the Purl Server and ClickHouse database run on infrastructure that you own or control. As such, you are solely responsible for:

• Infrastructure — Provisioning, configuring, and maintaining the servers, networks, and storage on which Purl runs.
• Backups — Regularly backing up your ClickHouse data and Purl configuration. We do not store or have access to your log data.
• Security — Securing your Purl installation, including firewall rules, TLS/SSL certificates, API key management, and access controls.
• Updates — Keeping your Purl Server updated to benefit from bug fixes, security patches, and new features.
• Compliance — Ensuring your use of Purl complies with all applicable laws and regulations, including data protection and privacy laws relevant to the log data you collect.

We provide installation scripts, documentation, and Docker images to assist with deployment, but we do not manage or monitor your self-hosted infrastructure.

All payments are processed securely through Stripe. By subscribing to a paid plan, you agree to the following:

• Subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annually) and renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled.
• You authorize us to charge your payment method on file for the applicable subscription fees.
• You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account dashboard or Stripe billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain access to paid features until then.
• If a payment fails, we will attempt to retry the charge. If payment cannot be collected after reasonable attempts, your subscription may be downgraded to the Free tier.
• All prices are in US dollars unless otherwise stated. You are responsible for any applicable taxes.

We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee on all paid subscriptions. If you are not satisfied with the Service for any reason, you may request a full refund within 14 days of your initial purchase or renewal by contacting us at legal@purlogs.com.

Refund requests made after the 14-day period will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis at our discretion. Refunds are processed back to your original payment method via Stripe and may take 5–10 business days to appear on your statement.

The purlogs.com SaaS platform (account management, billing, license key services) is provided on an "as available" basis. We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee a specific uptime percentage or provide a formal Service Level Agreement (SLA) for the SaaS dashboard.

The uptime and availability of your self-hosted Purl Server instance depends entirely on your own infrastructure. We are not responsible for downtime, data loss, or performance issues caused by your hosting environment, network configuration, or hardware failures.

We may perform scheduled maintenance on purlogs.com from time to time. Where possible, we will provide advance notice of planned maintenance windows.

Purl and all associated software, documentation, trademarks, logos, and content are proprietary and owned by Purl. All rights not expressly granted in these Terms are reserved.

Your subscription grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Purl software in accordance with your subscription plan and these Terms. This license does not grant you any right to:

• Modify, reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Purl software or license key validation mechanisms.
• Sublicense, resell, rent, or lease the software or your license key to any third party.
• Remove or alter any proprietary notices, labels, or marks from the software.
• Use Purl's name, logo, or branding in a manner that implies endorsement without prior written consent.

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You shall not:

• Use the Service to collect, store, or process data in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
• Attempt to circumvent license key validation, feature gating, or any other access control mechanisms.
• Use the Service in a manner that could damage, disable, or impair the purlogs.com platform or interfere with other users' access.
• Use automated means to access purlogs.com in a manner that exceeds reasonable use or constitutes abuse of the platform.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Purl and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, business opportunities, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Service.

Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising under these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid to us for the Service during the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

Either party may terminate these Terms at any time:

• By you: You may cancel your subscription and close your account at any time through your account dashboard. Your access to paid features will continue until the end of your current billing period.
• By us: We may suspend or terminate your account immediately if you violate these Terms, including but not limited to license key abuse, non-payment, or engaging in activities that harm the Service or other users. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before termination except in cases of severe violation.

Upon termination, your license key will be revoked, and your Purl Server will revert to Free tier functionality. Your log data remains on your own infrastructure and is not affected by account termination. You are responsible for exporting any account data from purlogs.com before closing your account.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will:

• Provide at least 30 days' advance notice by email to the address associated with your account.
• Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
• Post the revised Terms on purlogs.com.

Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of the revised Terms constitutes your acceptance of the changes. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and cancel your subscription before the changes take effect.

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the applicable jurisdiction, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation between the parties. If a resolution cannot be reached, disputes shall be submitted to the competent courts of the applicable jurisdiction.

• Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Purl regarding the Service.
• Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
• Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.
• Assignment: You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations without restriction.
